Gandhigiri pays off
Most of the people do not regard non-violent protests as powerful enough. Most of the people do not expect software engineers to go public and protest against the government either. But this story by Businessweek shows that, even software engineers could organize protests and use non-violent methods successfully.
An interesting point in the story is the sending of flowers to the director of U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services. It was like a scene in the blockbuster Bollywood movie Lage Raho Munnabhai. Since the release of ‘Munnabhai’, it has been inspiring many people to use peaceful methods, proposed and implemented by Mahatma Gandhi, for protests.
Gandhi and his views had also influenced Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and many other prominent champions of peace and equality. The protests by the highly skilled immigrants is another example of the power of Gandhian methods.
